Artistic Foundations and Inspirations
Ada Zachi‘s journey as an artist is deeply rooted in her rich educational background and early passion for creative expression. Born in Romania and currently based in Bucharest, Ada pursued her formal education at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, specializing in Set Design from 2014 to 2017. She further enriched her artistic perspective during a year as an Erasmus student at the prestigious Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. This academic foundation provided Ada with the technical skills and theoretical knowledge essential for her artistic endeavors.
Beyond her university studies, Ada’s artistic development was shaped by various specialized workshops, including make-up at Masca Theatre and stained glass techniques at Tiffany Art. These experiences broadened her artistic repertoire and deepened her understanding of different mediums. Her early training under painter Alexandrina Melehat was particularly influential, as it introduced her to the intricate world of oil painting. Another significant mentor in her artistic journey was Irina Crivăț, whose guidance left a lasting impact on her creative process. Since 2005, Ada has been an active member of the Plastic Artists Association Bucharest, where she has exhibited her work extensively, including notable exhibitions like the “ART 4 ALL Winter Saloon” in Bucharest and “Abstracts” with the Barbagelata Contemporary Art Foundation in Barcelona.

From a young age, Ada Zachi was drawn to the world of art and design. Her initial interest in fashion design during her childhood, where she sketched and created collections of clothing, laid the groundwork for her later artistic pursuits. The turning point came during high school when her father introduced her to the renowned artist Alexandrina Melehat. Under Melehat’s mentorship, Ada explored various artistic disciplines, from drawing and painting to art history and fashion design. This multifaceted exposure allowed her to discover her true passion for visual art.
Ada’s artistic style defies categorization, as she believes that adhering to a specific style would limit her creative expression. While her work often leans towards abstraction, it is fundamentally an exploration of her inner states, feelings, and thoughts. She finds inspiration in the human spirit and its divine manifestations, translating her emotions into vibrant colors and dynamic forms. Her paintings frequently serve as visual expressions of her writings, creating a unique synergy between text and image. This introspective approach allows Ada to delve deeply into her psyche, seeking to understand and articulate the complexities of her inner world.

Ada Zachi’s creative process is highly introspective and emotionally driven. She emphasizes the importance of being in the right mood to create, as her art often emerges from a profound need to express something deeply personal. In her studio, she strives to capture and convey the essence of her experiences and emotions, believing that art has the power to connect people on a fundamental level. For Ada, art is a means of communication that transcends language, enabling individuals to resonate with each other’s experiences and emotions.
Her artistic influences are diverse and eclectic, drawing inspiration from both her surroundings and renowned artists. Everyday encounters, the natural world, and fleeting memories all contribute to her creative process. Ada admires the works of artists like Gustav Klimt, René Magritte, Nicolae Pelmuș, Ștefan Câlția, Aubrey Beardsley, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and Roy Lichtenstein. These influences are reflected in her use of bold colors, intricate patterns, and dreamlike imagery. Ada’s ability to internalize and reinterpret these influences through her unique perspective is what makes her work so compelling.
Ada Zachi: Significant Works and Future Aspirations
Among Ada Zachi’s body of work, one piece stands out for its profound personal significance: “Marda.” This painting, created in the wake of her grandmother’s death, encapsulates the deep emotional bond they shared. Ada’s grandmother, who played a pivotal role in her upbringing, left an indelible mark on her life. The loss of this beloved figure prompted Ada to channel her grief and memories into “Marda,” a piece that resonates with raw emotion and heartfelt homage. This artwork is a testament to Ada’s ability to transform personal experiences into universal expressions of loss and remembrance.
In terms of medium, Ada has experimented with various materials and techniques over the past two decades. While she remains deeply attached to oil painting, she has recently explored the use of ink and Graph’it markers. Her latest works focus on the interplay of colors, shapes, and spaces, seeking to transcend traditional drawing tools and let color dictate the outcome. This continuous search for new modes of expression keeps her art dynamic and evolving. Notably, Ada has started a collaboration with Galerie Helligkei and is preparing some works for a major art fair in Munich (Munich Art Fair) this autumn.
Ada’s recent endeavors also include a significant collaboration with the Royal Foundation, where she illustrated book signs for “The Elderly’s Line – We have one love to give” Campaign by The Princess Margareta of Romania Foundation in 2020. Looking ahead, Ada dreams of creating a cycle of works inspired by her transformative experience in Morocco, where she volunteered as an artist 13 years ago. The profound connection she felt with the country and its vibrant culture left a lasting impression on her. Through this project, she hopes to capture the essence of Morocco’s beauty and the emotional resonance it holds for her, further enriching her diverse and impactful artistic legacy.
